My first book from this author and I chose it based simply on the fact it was one of the thrillers available as a part of this month's FirstReads. No spoilers here for those that are considering this. The story deals with main character Grace returning to her hometown after a long absence, in an effort to make amends with an old boyfriend, Sutton, that she abandoned some years ago. Using her connections an an "internet sanitizer" (someone who removes online content) she discovers Sutton has changed, and perhaps not for the better. She befriends his new wife and daughter and things go from there.The above summary sounds simple enough but the author complicates it with a bunch of subplots which I didn't really feel were needed involving the family. Didn't really understand the character of Sarah Thomas or any of her backstory, and everything revolving around her and Grace's mother went unresolved. The whole thing plays out more like a family drama rather then a thriller, with Grace reconnecting with her relatives. Grace isn't a super likeable character to begin with, and this just bogged things down.An OK read, but not the thriller I was lead to believe by the blurb. I don't regret reading it, but by the same token I doubt I'll remember it in a few days. When I first read the synopsis of this book, I thought I might have to really suspend disbelief but I was in the mood to read a thriller and this Kindle First Reads choice was in that category.Surprisingly, the plot does not seem unrealistic and is fast paced and suspenseful. This is a fairly short novel, not filled with a lot of redundancies. The story is concise and told from one viewpoint. It kept me turning pages and guessing where the storyline might be heading.There is nothing in this thriller to offend anyone sensitive to language, violence or sexual content. It is a well written and entertaining book with a neatly structured plot that ties up all loose ends at the end.
